Born in 1946, Ado Mohammed is into private business with a wealth of experience in public and private sectors from 1977 to date. He was a career banker with more than ten years of cognate experience and leadership/ managerial skills in the Nigerian banking system. He joined First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) Plc. in 1966 and rose through the ranks to senior management positions of the bank. As a Manager, he Headed the Bills & Credits Department in Kano and subsequently was appointed the Branch Manager in Kaduna (Kaduna state), Kontagora (Niger state), and Malumfashi (Katsina state) branches of the bank. In 1975, he left the services of FBN Plc to take up a new appointment with Kano Cooperative Bank Ltd where he was assigned the responsibility of Funding Management Staff and subsequently appointed Assistant General Manager (AGM) in charge of the Administration of all Head Office activities, Correspondent Banking Relations, Inter-Bank, and Inter-Governmental Relation. In 1977, he retired from the banking service and started his private business.
Ado Mohammed attended Birnin-Kudu Secondary School (1961-1965), Birnin-Kudu Senior Primary School (1958-1960), and Birnin-Kudu Junior Primary School (1955-1957). Also, he has attended several banking courses. Managerial and leadership training programs, workshops, and seminars. Over the years, he is actively engaged by many public/private organizations. Some of the positions held include Board Member of Kano Rural Electricity Board, President Kano Chamber of Commerce, National Vice President NACCIMA, Commissioner, Federal Body of Appeal Commission, Member of NEPA Sub-Committee on Commercialization and Privatization, Member of Nigeria Conservation Foundation Kano Chapter, Member, Legal Aid Council, Executive Vice Chairman, Freedom Radio, Chairman Madobi Community Bank Ltd and Member, National Association Community Banks.
Alhaji Ado Mohammed, a well-respected elder statesman of both Kano and Jigawa States, was one of the leading proponents of the agitation for the Re-establishment of Islamic Sharia in Kano in 1998. That agitation led to the formation of the Independent Sharia Implementation Support Committee in August 2001, of which he was a leading light. Alhaji Ado subsequently became the first and only Commander General of the Independent Hisba Committee from 2001 to 2005 in Kano. He has also been an Executive Committee Member of the Islamic Forum of Nigeria from 2015 to date. Alhaji Ado has been involved in many other community activities.
