Sani Usman
Malam Muhammad Sani Usman holds a Diploma in International Humanitarian Law (IHL) 1998 from the Danish Center for Human Rights (DCHR) Copenhagen Denmark. He is a holder of Master of Education Degree (M Ed) 1990 in Developmental Psychology and Learning and a Bachelor of Arts Education/Geography Degree (B.A.Ed) 1984 from Bayero University, Kano; He also holds a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) 1979 from Advanced Teachers College, Kafanchan (Now College of Education Gidan Waya) Affiliated to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Malam Usman had taught at all levels of Education in Nigeria starting from a Nomadic School in 1975, Secondary Schools from 1979 to 1984. He also taught at Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic (Part-time) and Federal College of Education, Katsina where he rose to the Position of Senior Lecturer in Basic Education Statistics, Research Methodology, Educational Psychology and Guidance & Counselling. He had a stint at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Abuja where he rose to the position of Assistant Director (Research). Between 1999 and 2003, Malam Usman left the Human Rights Commission to work on the USAID Literacy Enhancement Assistance Programme (LEAP) as Teacher Policy Coordinator for the Policy Component of the Project under the Research Triangle Institute (RTI) of North Carolina State University and was promoted Director Teacher Policy. He also worked for Girls’ Education Project (GEP I and II) as National Technical Adviser to the FME/UNICEF and DFID (now FCDO). He also worked for the RTI/USAID as National Coordinator Education Data Survey (NEDS 2010 plus). Malam Usman was also part the Team that developed the Teacher Development Programme (TDP) for UNICEF/DFID in 2012. From 2013 to 2017 Malam Usman worked at the British Council, Nigeria as Programme Manager (Education and Society) from the Kano Office where he retired and was engaged as Independent Consultant for the British Council, Nigeria. During his several years of working with Development Partners, Malam Usman was part of the Teams that Developed School Based Teacher Development Programme (SBTD), Students Tutoring Mentoring and Counselling Programme (STUMEC), School Based Management Committee (SBMC) Policy, Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA), and Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Programmes of UBEC and SUBEB Katsina. Malam Usman also facilitated the workshops that developed the first ever out of School Children data for Nigeria using the UNESCO Institute of Statistics among other important National Assignments. He is married and a blessed father of thirteen children
