Our History

Almubarak Waqf Foundation, AWF, is non-governmental organization which started in 2001, commenced operations with registration of a business name called “Almubarak Engineering Company” in 2006. It was subsequently incorporated with the name Almubarak Waqf Foundation as a non-profit, non-governmental organization on September 4, 2019, CAC/IT/NO 134468.  This noble idea and initiative was conceived by its founder, Abba Salihi, dating back to the year 2001. It was evident then, that the Nigerian society was faced with multiple challenges of structural issues of the economy, the educational system and the socio-political trends amongst the populace.  The challenges were becoming potential threats to economic wellbeing and prosperity of the nation. Globally, due to lack of capacity and resources, governments do require self-effort from private organizations, individuals and communities to complement their efforts toward economic development and welfare of the populace. His determination on this premise, the founder set about establishing the foundation in Kano, Nigeria. He dedicated a sum of ₦1.5 million as a start-up capital for the Foundation and invested same in ethical and sharia compliant businesses to generate revenue for financing the endowment activities. Targeting re-orientation and reforms in the socio-economic and religious affairs in northern Nigeria, education was identified as the catalyst for economic development alongside religious and social cohesion. The Foundation is an endowment (Waqf) built on sound islamic principles and entirely dedicated to serve humanity and raise the level of our socio-cultural values and education to higher standards.
