Do you know that not all of us are capable of fasting during this month? For those who are not capable they are expected to feed the poor. There’s no other period as good as this month of Ramadan to do that.
In the Quran, Allah SWT says in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 184:
“(Fasting) for a fixed number of days; but if any one of you is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed number (Should be made up) from days later. For those who can do it (With hardship), is a ransom, the feeding of one that is indigent. But he that will give more, of his own free will, – it is better for him. And it is better for you that ye fast, if ye only knew”
This verse explains that if someone is unable to fast due to illness or travel, they must make up the missed days later. And for those who are unable to fast due to hardship, they can give a Fidyah (a payment or donation) to feed a poor person for each missed day of fasting. The verse also emphasizes the reward of voluntary acts of goodness and reminds believers that fasting is ultimately the best option if they are able to do so.

So Fidyah is religious donation or money paid to feed those in need by another person whom fasting has been made obligatory to, but can’t fast due to medical conditions or prolonged illnesses or broken fast

- We then get them to donate their Fidyah to us towards achieving our goals in helping the poor.
- And then we pool these donations together for immediate assistance to the poor where needed.
