Professor Usman
Muhammad Shu’aib,
Jakadan Funtua
sman Muhammad Shu’aib is a Professor of law
with 20 years teaching experience as lecturer and
currently, the Dean, Faculty of Law, Bayero
University Kano (BUK) from 2019. He is also the
Director, International Institute of Islamic Banking
and Finance (IIIBF) of the same University. Born in
June, 1968 in Funtua, Katsina State of Nigeria, he
obtained his Bachelor degree, LL.B (Islamic and
Common Law) in 1994 and went to Nigerian
Law School, Lagos, for the professional certification
training and qualified as Barrister at Law (BL) in
1996. To further his interest in educational
development and academics, he obtained two Masters and a Doctorate degrees in
law, that is, LL.M (Islamic Humanitarian Law) from Bayero University Kano (2004),
LL.M (Human Rights) from University of Essex, United Kingdom (2005) and PhD
(Islamic Law) from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria (2014). His job experience
started with Katsina State Ministry of Justice (1995 – 2000), employed as a Trainee
State Counsel and rose to the position of Resident State Counsel and Chairman Rents
Tribunal in charge of Funtua/ Malumfashi Zone. He left the Justice Ministry in 2001 for
a new career and joined the services of Bayero University Kano as an Assistant
Lecturer where he progressed to attain the prestigious position of Professor of Islamic
Law. He has been teaching in the Faculty of law for 20 years during which time he
taught different courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The areas he
specialised are Usul al Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence), Ayat and Ahadeeth Al Ahkam,
Islamic Law of contract and Islamic Finance. He also supervises numerous
dissertations and thesis for candidates at undergraduate and postgraduate levels on
different areas of law. He served as external examiner for LL.M (Master of Laws)
dissertation and PhD thesis from University of Illorin, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU),
Zaria and Nigerian Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos. Prof.
Usman has conducted many research studies on different areas of law and edited
some scholarly works. Some of these were published as books and articles in national
and international Journals by reputable publishers. They include: Administration of
Islamic Criminal Law in Nigeria, The Position of African Court Human & People’s Rights
within the African Union, Codifying the Principles of Islamic Commercial Practice in the
Muslim World, A Critique of CEDAW from Shari’ah Perspective, Establishment of

Alhaji Yusuf Umar Chedi
Born in January 1967 in Kano state, Nigeria,
Yusuf Umar is a Registered Nurse with Medical
and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). He is
presently the Nurse Manager, Operating Room
Department of King Fahd General Hospital,
Jeddah., Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). He is
an Instructor, Basic Life Support (BLS) and
Advance Cardiac Life Support (CLS) with the
Saudi Heart Association (SHA). He is the
International coordinator (Nigeria), Federation
of Islamic Medical Association (FIMA) since
2008. Yusuf Umar is a member of the Board of
Directors of Universal Medical Supplies Nigeria
limited (UMESCO), member of the Board of Trustees, Nigeria Community
School, Jeddah and the Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Diaspora Organization
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (NIDO-KSA).
Islamic University in Nigeria: Its Relevance in Promoting Female Education, Legal
Issues in Advocacy: An Islamic Perspective, Waqf Administration and Founding
Education in Northern Nigeria. The books were Legal Issues and Shari’ah Governance
on Islamic Banking in Nigeria; (Lagos, Benchmark Publishers Limited) and Codification
of Islamic Criminal Law in Northern Nigeria, (Zaria, ABU Press Limited). He also
participated in series of learned conferences/seminars at which he made presentations.
In the course of his career, he held various positions of responsibility in Boards,
Committes and Councils of several organizations, Institutions and community services.
He is a serving Member of the Financial Regulation Advisory Committee of Experts
(FRACE) of CBN, Katsina State Shari’ah Commission, Board of Trustees, Muslim
Community School of Health Technology and Usman Bin Afan Islamic Trust, Gadan
Kaya, Kano State among others.
He is a member of Nigerian Association of Law Teachers (NALT), Nigerian Bar
Association (NBA), Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria, Nigerian Association of Law
Teachers, International Bar Association and Humanitarian Law Teachers
Academic Circle. He has skill and fair knowledge in information technology (IT) and is
proficient in Arabic, English and Hausa languages.
