Reducing Environmental Degradation, Erosion and Desertification Via Competitive Tree Planting Campaign
Salam Alaikum (Peace upon you) Ibrahim!
Where are you taking these tree seedlings to? I asked.
Almubarak Waqf Foundation will be organising its Competitive Tree Planting Campaign soon. So we need 20,000 seedlings for the campaign, he said.
When is this campaign coming up? I enquired.
We have a tentative date for it which is between 21 – 25th July, 2023. I will communicate with you with a new date if there is a change.
You can be part of the campaign as a donor or a volunteer or a partner. So are you interested? He Asked.
Yes! I responded.
I would like to know the benefits of this campaign to me and the community before I commit to it. I inquired.
I am glad that you asked, he said. You have a lot to benefit from this program if you participate in the tree planting campaign. Before I itemise the gains you are going to reap from this either as a donor or a partner or a volunteer, let me share with you a hadith of the prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) on this narrated by Anas bin Malik, the Prophet said (PBUH):
“If any Muslim plants any plant and a human being or an animal eats of it, he will be rewarded as if he had given that much in charity”, he continued
Wow! That is great! I exclaimed. I’ll be happy to be part of this. Please tell me more, I said.
Glad that you want to learn more! Ibrahim said. And the benefits you are going to get in return for participating as a donor or partner or volunteer are:
- By participating in the program, you would have contributed in saving our environment,
- You would have helped to institutionalise tree planting as part of the Islamic Culture in Northern Nigeria,
- You’ll earn continuous rewards as Sadaqah Jariyah,
- Taking part, you’ll create awareness on the Islamic position as regards protecting the environment, reducing poverty and reversing the adverse issues of climate change,
- These, all together, will contribute to Nigeria’s achievement of the SDGs.
WOW! Are there other ways the community will benefit from these specifically, I enquired further.
He said thank you and continued that the communities can benefit in many ways but due to lack of time, I will leave you with few of the benefits such as:
One, by planting trees, we actively combat deforestation, enhance biodiversity, and restore ecosystems. Together, we can create a greener and healthier planet for future generations.
Two, our initiative goes beyond planting trees. We engage local communities, providing collaboration opportunities, environmental education, and skills training. By these we empower individuals to become guardians of their environment.
Lastly, trees provide a multitude of benefits, from improving air quality to conserving water resources. By supporting our initiative, you contribute to sustainable development and the overall well-being of society.
